We have scheduled a brain tanning workshop for the weekend of July 18th and 19th 2015
The Art of Brain Tanning
A two day workshop at Odin’s Acres
Have you ever wanted to tan a deer hide or process your own leather? In this two day workshop we will give you an opportunity to learn how to brain tan buckskin under the close guidance of a skilled instructor.
By the end of this workshop you should have hands on experience with all parts of the wet scrape brain tan process. You will also understand the dry scrap process, and the differences between fur on and fur off tanning. We will discuss the options of alum and bark tanning, as well. Although we will work in groups you will be able to take home a sizable piece of brain tanned buckskin.
Brain tan is the traditional way of tanning leather and produces an incredibly soft, supple and strong material. It is a great material to work with and opens up new options for leather work.
We will provide all needed materials as well as an informational booklet you may take home with you after the class. There will, also, be hide scrappers for sale.
We plan to host this workshop on Saturday and Sunday July 18th and 19th, 2015
We will reschedule for inclement weather.
We ask for a $50 deposit to hold your spot if you would like to sign up. This $50 will go toward your full tuition.
We ask for a suggested donation of $150 - $200, but some skilled work trade can be negotiated.
Sign up soon! We only have room for five people in the workshop.
